Mlb 2008 Preview: American League Central

Between 2006 and 2009, he played with the Tigers and A’s before spending two seasons in Japan. He posted records of 15-8 and 11-9 with Hiroshima of the Japan Central League.

Jason Frasor is a graduate from Oak Forest High School and pitched for Southern Illinois University. His record this year is 2-1 with an ERA of 2.98, 37 strikeouts and 10 holds. Stewart was sent to the minors. Frasor will definately be an added bonus to the bullpen that already has sale jerseys, Matt Thornton and Sergio Santos.

The question is where do the White Sox turn? What does the future hold? The truth is there really is no light at the end of the tunnel. Unless the team can collect talent via trades and clean house, the South Side struggles could be around for awhile.

The Tigers get their first look at Chicago’s Gavin Floyd Monday. The 26-year-old righty went 3-0 in five starts against Detroit in 2008. Chicago went on to win each of those five contests.

I’d argue Randy Williams went through stretches like that because he wasn’t very good, but Jim is certainly right that Ohman is actually the fourth-most effective reliever against lefties in the team’s bullpen. His lone job likely will be solely to retire left-handers, and those situations likely will be earlier in games (like, the sixth inning).

The Tigers will need to neutralize Alexei Ramirez and Carlos Quentin if they are to continue their three-game winning streak. Ramirez lit up Tiger pitching in ’08, hitting .340 in 14 games, while Quentin was equally as effective as he hit for .333. The two combined for 23 RBIs and seven home runs.

National League MVP – Carlos Gonzalez, Colorado Rockies. This may come as a shock to people who always look at St. Louis Cardinals Albert Pujols as the automatic preseason pick for MVP. But anyone in the know understands the greatness of this hidden gem in the mountains of Colorado. The 25-year-old Gonzalez will be a legitimate threat to win the Triple Crown over the next few seasons. Last year, he hit 34 home runs with 117 RBIs and a .336 average. Throw in 111 runs scored and 26 stolen bases, as well as being a plus defensive outfielder, and you have the most well-rounded player in all of baseball.

“If the first week of the year is any indication, the Sox will have no problem shutting down games if a starter carries a lead past the sixth inning,” said Stankevitz.
