Hiroki Kuroda gave a valiant effort on the mound, but once again still was not quite as good as the Yankees would have liked for him to be. He worked out of multiple jams, but still gave up four runs on seven hits and a pair of walks over 6 1/3 innings and did not factor into the decision.
Just as i feel that players, who use synthetic products to enhance their abilities and give them a competitive edge, are guilty of wrong doing, I feel every athlete who takes the field is obligated to play hard and try to win fairly. To try and maim someone is unthinkable.
He pitched into the sixth inning, giving up four total runs (two unearned). By the time he left the game, Texas led 4-3, but the Cardinals scored in the inning to tie the game. Texas took the lead in the top of the seventh but eventually lost the game in the 11th.
He could be in the mix for a bullpen role, but given he was better as a double-A starter than triple-A reliever in 2010 he could see some extended innings this spring as the Sox gauge his viability as a starting option. While his starting success didn’t come in Charlotte, he probably has as good a shot to pitch well this March than Humber and/or Harrell just given their meddling triple-A numbers.
Assuming Beckham avoids that whole April-June thing that happened last year, he’s an ideal No. 2 hitter. He has plus on-base skills and good power-exactly why he should hit second. Hopefully, he won’t have the bat taken out of his hands too often to bunt-after all, isn’t one of Pierre’s greatest assets his base-stealing ability? If Beckham is allowed to swing away, the Sox lineup will have a lot more success.
It’s no secret that Miguel Cabrera is off to an incredible start, but the Tigers are also getting major contributions from Brandon Inge, who appears to be reborn in his return to third base. Last season, Inge hit .263 in 13 games against the sale jerseys, striking out 12 times and registering only five RBIs. Inge’s performance could play an enormous role on the outcome of this series.
Rodriguez himself had a chance to drive in the go-ahead run in the 11’th, yet grounded out with a runner at third. The Yankees have had to welcome him back because they have few other big bats for these clutch situations, but he missed on his first big opportunity.
